IndiGo Flight Status Today (December 17): Dense Fog Causes Fresh Cancellations Across Major Airports

New Delhi, December 17, 2025:
Flight operations for IndiGo Airlines remained heavily affected on Wednesday as dense winter fog disrupted air traffic across North and East India. Despite gradual recovery from earlier operational challenges, poor visibility forced the airline to cancel dozens of flights, impacting thousands of passengers nationwide.

Major airports including Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai witnessed delays and cancellations, triggering fresh travel chaos during the busy winter season.

How Fog Impacted Flight Operations

Early Wednesday morning, IndiGo issued a travel advisory on X (formerly Twitter), alerting passengers about reduced visibility and slower air traffic movement.

“As the morning approaches under misty winter skies, fog is predicted across parts of North and East India, which may lead to reduced visibility and slower flight movements,” IndiGo said.

The situation was most severe at Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) and Chennai International Airport, with knock-on effects felt across several domestic routes.

✈️ Travel Advisory

  • Check real-time flight status on the IndiGo website or mobile app before leaving home
  • Expect road traffic delays due to fog; plan extra travel time to the airport

Legal and Operational Pressure on IndiGo

The timing of today’s disruption is sensitive, as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to passenger compensation is scheduled for hearing today in the Delhi High Court. The petition seeks enhanced compensation for travelers affected by large-scale flight cancellations earlier this month.

While IndiGo maintains that passenger safety remains its top priority, the combination of seasonal fog and operational strain continues to test the resilience of India’s busiest airline and the patience of winter travelers.
