A shocking incident at Tiruppur Railway Station on Monday afternoon left commuters stunned after a young woman was allegedly attacked by her former partner during a confrontation near the station entrance.
The victim, a 21-year-old garment factory employee, succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident. The accused, identified as 24-year-old Karthik, was detained at the scene by personnel of the Railway Protection Force and later taken into custody by local police.
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
Dispute Escalated During Public Meeting
According to preliminary findings, the woman and the accused had previously been in a relationship that ended recently. On Monday, the two reportedly met near the station along with another individual said to be the woman’s fiancé.
Police officials said the discussion was intended to clarify personal matters but escalated into a heated argument. During the altercation, the accused allegedly used a sharp-edged weapon to attack the woman.
A senior investigating officer stated that bystanders attempted to intervene, and the suspect was restrained until security personnel arrived.
Emergency Response and Medical Outcome
The injured woman was rushed to the Government District Headquarters Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead due to severe blood loss.
One additional individual sustained minor injuries while attempting to intervene, officials confirmed.
Case Registered Under BNS
The Tiruppur North Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 103 (murder).
Investigators have:
- Seized the suspected weapon
- Collected CCTV footage from the railway station premises
- Recorded statements from eyewitnesses
Police sources indicated that initial questioning suggests the act may have been driven by personal grievances related to the breakup. Authorities emphasized that further conclusions will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
